DENTON PARISH COUNCIL
Annual Report from the Chair of Denton Parish Council
2 August 2021
This has most certainly been a period of time that has been unprecedented. After a very difficult year for everyone, I am hoping that we are now emerging out of the constraints, which were sadly necessary in our day to day life. Although our Annual Meeting is a little later than usual, we thought it prudent to try and stay on track.
I take this opportunity to thank the NHS and all essential workers, who have certainly given above and beyond. Also, thanks to our own Village Volunteer Group who have acted selflessly & organised themselves into a support network. For the Parish Council, this impacted on how we held meetings but Zoom enabled us to stay connected and projects that were in abeyance can now be actioned.
Denton Reservoir
This area has been a sanctuary for many over the pandemic, which in turn, due to the amount of people, also bought many problems with litter and anti social behaviour. However; the Volunteer Group and The Canal & River Trust have worked together to help alleviate this problem.
Play Area
As many of you are aware the play area on Hungate Road is in dire need of attention. The Parish Council are very committed to improving this area and our goal is to provide a safe and inclusive play area for the village. We have, as I write, a Special Edition of the Denton Digest to deliver which also gives residents a chance to voice their opinion.
Speeding
This is ongoing problem and we have been discussing several ideas with our District Councillor on how to help alleviate our concerns. We still have work to do on this, but hopefully, later this year will have a firm plan to put in action.
Defibrillator
Since the installation of the new Defibrillator in the Phone Box. We are waiting for approval that the First Aid courses regarding the defibrillator can now safely go ahead. As soon as we receive confirmation, we will let everyone know and encourage attendance.
Library
Since the installation of the defibrillator, the books from the library have been in storage. The Parish Council is looking into an alternative, as this facility has been missed by residents.
Denton Digest
The Denton Digest has certainly been well received and I personally thank our Parish Clerk and Proper Officer James McCloskey for all his hard work in compiling the information.
Councillor Vacancies
We currently have 2 vacancies and would welcome applications.
Finally, I thank the Councillor's both past and present particularly Martin Crush for his invaluable guidance and support.
